As the 2020-21 school year approaches, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to force many school districts to designate learning to be completed virtually. Pandemic Tutoring Services is a volunteer organization created to supply additional 1 on 1 and small group services to students for free as they adapt to learning online. This organization was formed by and consists of Michigan State students with a mission to support learning within the Lansing School District for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic. This has been and will continue to be a difficult year; however, when we band together, we can overcome the challenges which arise from this virus.
My name is James Kinville and I am a third year pre-med student at MSU. I am originally from Plymouth, MI. I love mountain biking and playing any pick-up or intramural sport that I can. Over quarantine I slept a lot, started running again, and got a job at a brain injury rehab center.
Hi everyone! My name is MacKenzie, and I am a third year nursing student at MSU! I chose the health profession because of my passion to serve others, so I am super excited about the opportunity to help students in our area navigate all of the difficulties that may arise from online learning. I have a lot of experience in tutoring and providing other academic support as former President of a service organization called Tower Guard, which works with MSU's Resource Center for Persons With Disabilities. I am eager to help students excel academically this coming year!
My name is Maddy Niblock. I am a junior Human Biology major on a Pre-Medical track. I am in Lyman Briggs and Honors Colleges. I am also a member of the Spartan Marching Band Big Ten Flags Corps. In my free time, I love to play the flute and piano. I hope to help middle and high school students navigate this academically difficult time!
Hi! I'm Katie Albus. I am currently a third year Computer Engineering student at MSU. Other things I'm involved in include the Society of Women Engineers, Women in Engineering, and research in MSU's iPRoBe lab. When I'm not coding, I enjoy doing yoga or watching shows on Nextflix. I can't wait to get started and lend a hand to future Spartans through this challenging time!
Hello! My name is Elisha Smith and I am a senior studying Human Development and Family Studies at MSU. I grew up in Cody, WY, but have found my home here in Michigan. I work at The Peoples Church in East Lansing as their Youth Director, and I love working with youth in educational settings. I love to swing-dance, paint, and bake, and during quarantine I’ve gotten to enjoy spending quality time with my two cats Pumpkin and Pixie. I am so excited to be a part of this program, and am looking forward to working with students in my community!
My name is Jacob and I am a junior electrical engineering major at Michigan State University. I also am a manager at GENISAMA LLC, an East Lansing startup inspired by research done at Michigan State University, where I work with machine-learning algorithms and build Android applications. While not working or studying, I enjoy playing soccer, disc golf, basketball, running, and biking! I am also a huge music fan and have dappled with making music and videos for fun, in the past. I also love talking about innovative ideas, potential business, cool startups, and fun apps, and even dreams of owning my own company one day.
